Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is NNTP / Usenet?

A: NNTP (Network News Transfer Protocol) is the protocol used to read and post to Usenet newsgroups — a distributed discussion system that predates the modern web. Clean Express is a client that connects to NNTP servers.

Q: Do I need a Usenet provider account?

A: Yes. Clean Express connects to NNTP servers you configure. You'll need access to at least one NNTP server, either a public server or a paid Usenet provider.

Q: How are my server credentials stored?

A: Server credentials are stored in the system Keychain, protected by your device passcode or biometric authentication. They never leave your device.

Q: What attachment formats are supported?

A: Clean Express decodes yEnc and uuencode binary payloads. You can preview text, images, and PDFs inline, and queue large downloads for batch retrieval.

Q: Can I post to newsgroups?

A: Yes. Compose new posts or replies with quote-aware context. Choose MIME, yEnc, or uuencode posting format. Drafts are saved automatically and posting happens in the background.

Q: Does Clean Express collect my data?

A: No. Clean Express does not collect personal data. All data stays on your device. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Q: The app crashed. What now?

A: Clean Express uses Sentry for crash reporting. Anonymous diagnostics are sent automatically to help us fix bugs. No personal data is included. If the issue persists, contact us with a description of what happened.
